Proposed Products...

1. Production of Cinnamon Bark Oil

Cinnamon bark oil is produced by the steam distillation of the cinnamon bark. This has been a lucrative industry in the past, but Sri Lanka has been gradually loosing its market share in the international market over the last decade or two.

It is our objective to carry out research in this sphere and to produce high quality cinnamon bark oil at the lowest possible cost and to regain at least the lost market share. As the first step in this regard, Kambururpitiya cinnamon oil distillation plant will be rehabilitated and research will be carried out in association with the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) with assistance from the Inventors Commission.

The waste steam from the electricity generation process could be used to distill the cinnamon bark oil, and as no additional steam has to be generated its production cost will be lower than those of stand alone cinnamon oil distillation plants.

2. Drying of Spices

The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) has indicated its desire to initiate a project to dry spices using steam. They have expressed their willingness to tie up with Davora and negotiations are going on.

3. Stabilization of Rice Bran and Production of Rice Bran Oil

Rice bran is the most nutritious part of the rice, but it is used only as an animal feed at present in Sri Lanka. Most countries stabilize the bran and produce rice bran oil using steam. However, the manufacturing process is highly sophisticated and action has already being initiated to negotiate with a foreign manufacturer, who have wide experience in this process.

Despite its similarities to other common vegetable oils, rice bran oil offers several unique properties that make it very interesting as a specialty oil in niche markets. It has a very appealing nut-like flavor and once extracted is very stable with good fry-life. But perhaps its most notable feature is its high level of components with nutraceutical value such as gamma-oryzanol and tocotrienols.

4. Fertilizer from fuel wood ash

It is planned to produce fertilizer from the wood ash, which is a by product of proposed dendro power plant. Wood ash is rich with Potassium and it is added other two major constitutes of a fertilizer, Nitrogen and Phosperous in a proposed fertilizer plant. Composition of N, P & K will be analysed and monitored in the production process by an automated laboratory. This fertilizer is expected to distribute among the farmers at a very competitive price compared to ordinary fertilizer.
